You have just picked up a new car and before you have left the dealership someone offers you paint protection for a few thousand dollars. Should you take it? Usually not and here is why.

What dealer protection usually is

Dealer paint protection is often a low-grade sealant applied quickly, sometimes by the yard rather than a detailer, with a warranty full of conditions that are easy to void. It is rarely the professional ceramic coating the name implies.

What new paint actually needs

New does not always mean flawless. Cars pick up light marring from transport, dealer washes and lot handling before you ever see them. A proper job starts by decontaminating and inspecting the paint, doing a light correction where needed, then applying a real coating to a clean surface.
